Abstract We briefly discuss some of the problems associated with observations of atmospheric aerosols from space. The ways of carrying out the inversion of optical data are under special consideration. For sensing the highest parts of the aerosol regions in the atmosphere appropriate instruments must be used, and a particular one is described in some detail.
