Abstract Most authors assumed that gas was removed from the solar system by solar wind when the young sun passed through T-Tauri stage. Another possible mechanism - the thermal escape from the hot exosphere of disk-like cloud is considered. It is shown that the solar UV radiation could heat the gas in the exosphere up to temperature sufficient for removal of gas. The theory of thermal escape for rapidly rotating atmosphere is developed. The calculations show that the time of dissipation of gas from the nebula with mass ∼10−2MΘ is about 108 years. Our model predicts the possibility of violent regime of evaporation.
