Abstract Strategies for rendezvous on high eccentric orbits, such as the geostationary transfer orbit, are discussed and simulation results are presented. The overall rendezvous procedure is subdivided into following phases: —Guided phase: ground controlled “phasing” strategy; relative distance reduction from tenthousands of kilometers down to the order of 500 km (acquisition range). —Homing phase: autonomously controlled transfer, range reduction down to the order of 5 km. —Final approach: autonomously controlled trajectory according channel guidance of proportional navigation. Range reduction down to the order of 10 m. —Docking: autonomously controlled trajectory up to physical contact.
