Abstract Physical processes involved in Titan's atmospheric interaction with the Saturnian magnetosphere and the solar wind are considered with special attention to the ionization coupling of Titan's extended hydrogen (and nitrogen) gas torus with the magnetospheric plasma. The effect of direct plasma interaction with the neutral atmosphere on the ionospheric transport and chemistry is also discussed in comparison with the Venus-type interaction process.
