Modelica is a new language for convenient modeling of physical sytems. In this article an overview about the language features is given, the organisation behind the language development, available Modelica libraries and Modelica simulation environments, the recent, first workshop about Modelica and the EU-Project RealSim to enhance hardware-in-the-loop simulation and design optimization techniques on the basis of Modelica.
