Conversion of T.2 tanker (now T-AGM-19 class) under contract awarded by U S Navy, on behalf of NASA, to General Dynamics Corp; new midships section provides space for 400 tons of electronic equipment and also accommodation for both crew and technical staff; other changes include new bridge structure and additions to after superstructure instrumentation complex functions as single system during space flight, and components are discussed; main particulars, before and after conversion respectively, are length oa 523 ft 6 in. to 595 ft, beam 68 to 75 ft, draft 30 ft 2 in. to 25 ft, displacement 22,000 to 22,297 tons; turboelectric propulsion machinery was not altered.
