Area traffic control system selected for Finnish capital uses Siemens and Halske VSR 1600 traffic signal computer; computer functions are divided between signal program processor and central processor to handle process control task; VSR 1600 operates with 4, 8, or 16 fixed signal programs/intersection, switched according to existing traffic situation and modified continuously within certain limits; inductive detectors will initially be used; ultimately, some 300 intersections will be linked through satellite centers to master computer.
