Review of developments combining nuclear propulsion and improved submarine hull design, as applicable to commercial considerations; some technical and physical limitations as well as potential resulting from such advantages as shorter routes of transportation, absence of weather effects, etc, are discussed; economic justification is not studied except to include certain known facts and basic assumptions; certain factors important to design criteria for cargo submarines are noted.
