U S Navy's Deep Submergence Systems Project comprises Man-in-the-Sea and manned Deep Submergence Vehicle program; design requirements of two types of vehicles, Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle (DSRV) and Deep Submergence Search Vehicle (DSSV) and their subsystems, in particular, propulsion and maneuvering systems; mission cycle for DSRV and ten principal functions are outlined and problems indicated most difficult of which involves underwater mating with disabled submarine; steps in mating sequence.
