Experimental design is being prepared by Mitsui Shipbuilding and Engineering Co, and Lloyd's Register of Shipping are collaborating with regard to hull strength and structural arrangements; length bp 1190 ft, breadth molded 204 ft, depth molded 110 ft, draft 80 ft, block coefficient 0.83; dw 400,000 tons; final decision has not yet been reached on whether steam turbine or diesel propulsion will be chosen, or whether both alternatives will be available; two 8-cyl Mitsui-B and W type K98FF diesel engines, with combined maximum continuous rating of 59,200 bhp at 103 rpm, would give service speed of 15 knots fully loaded with 15% margin; side elevation drawing is included.
