Analysis of traffic signal and flasher operations for Crawfordsville maintenance district in State of Indiana; systems analysis techniques determined optimal lamp replacement interval, shortest route for preventive maintenance, and crew staffing; lamps with long-rated lives are recommended because their operation is less costly; adequate maintenance record system is mandatory; failure rate for traffic signals was reasonably represented by Poisson distribution with mean of 0.0063 failures/day/signal.
