Reconstruction of Birmingham New Street Station on London Midland Region of British Railways provided unique ventilation problem because of need to prevent diesel exhaust fumes trapped by low ceiling above tracks infiltrating into public areas and concourse above; sketch of platform ventilation system; adoption of induced discharge of 510,000 cfm moved by 24 double-width double-inlet centrifugal fans and three axial-flow fans; description of control system.
