Struggle for existence faced by railroads is critically reviewed and rail-road's output analyzed; switch to diesel power and new techniques in railroad electrification developed in Europe are considered; ways to improve existing traffic; highway planning which disregards existing railroad transportation and limits its service facilities is criticized; joint use of railroad property by other utilities proposed.
