Characteristic properties and specific applications of rocket engine reviewed; major parts of rocket propulsion system, using either solid or liquid propellants, are summarized and important parameters of propellant defined; influence of temperature, chamber pressure, molecular weight and mixture ratio on performance of propellant; problems regarding cooling of engine; nozzle flow of combustion products with different numbers of freedom is treated kinetically.
