To achieve high degree of reliability required in aerospace systems designer must pursue following tasks: determine level of environmental stresses to which equipment will be subjected, design equipment to be compatible with established stress levels, and prove design adequacy; factors to consider in achieving reliable design are enumerated, most important of which are safety factors and safety margins, failure mode identification, cause, and analysis.
