Sources, application, and methods of obtaining vehicle load data are presented with emphasis on "in-car" fatigue data acquisition; sources of load data include actual service, simulated service conditions (proving grounds), theoretical calculations, or laboratory component tests used to duplicate fatigue failures; details of measuring systems and techniques for evaluating fatigue design problems related to energy-absorbing steering columns and automotive gas turbines.
