Every driver has experienced that surer stop under better control can be made if he "pumps" brakes; nonlocked wheel will resist side motion and slipping, but not skidding, wheel gives best retarding friction with road; system is described in which information on motion of braked wheel as to its approaching skid is obtained from electromechanical inductive device and then processed in electronic module to command brake to go "off" or "on" in response to wheel motion; control system for passenger cars is made up of wheel sensor, electronic control module, and brake actuator, in brake control system for trucks, three-way valve and existing brake chamber take place of vacuum suspended actuator or passenger car system.
