Use of satellites for field mapping; rocket and space probe measurements supplement satellite surveys in providing crossties for mapping and in finding sources of field variations; advantages of magnetometers based on nuclear or atomic resonance; use of Orbiting Geophysical Observatory satellites for future magnetic field surveys including satellites in highly eccentric orbits with small inclination, and satellites in polar orbits of low eccentricity.
