Type of ship under consideration for first application of nuclear power is large oil tanker; types of slightly enriched uranium reactor which are being studied are reviewed and economic factors discussed; more detailed consideration is given to nuclear fuel and fuel cycles and particular attention is directed towards possible use of civil plutonium as fuel for merchant ships.
