First of new class of guided missile destroyer built by Cammell Laird and Co for British Navy; displacement is some 5000 tons, length 520 ft, beam 54 ft; armament includes Seaslug guided weapons system, four radar controlled 4-5 in. guns, two Seacat close range guided weapons systems; underwater detection apparatus is provided, and also Westland Wessex helicopter; propulsion system combines two geared steam turbines with two pairs of gas turbines, latter providing emergency power while steam is being raised.
