Summary of available theoretical and experimental investigations made to study shock waves generated by aircraft at supersonic speed and propagation through nonhomogeneous atmosphere; appreciable pressure disturbances can be imposed on ground as result of shock waves extending to ground level; means of reducing shock-wave intensity at ground level; effect on operation of other aircraft in vicinity.
