Power required to achieve given design speed on fixed wing aircraft depends on fuselage size and aerodynamic cleanliness; once these are determined, rotor size required to give aircraft VTOL capability as tilt wing configuration can be established; differences between fixed and tilt wing aircraft resulting from this approach; effect of differences on empty weight is determined; charts indicating conditions under which fixed and tilt wing aircraft will have equal empty weight and performance.
