Only method for establishing absolute height is barometric method; three margins of error occurring when staggering aircraft at different altitude levels, considered by ICAO Committee, viz, instrument error, error in measurement of static pressure and position error, are critically discussed and correctly related to pressure; altimeter gives least error as regards assigning and sustaining altitude, particularly if calibrated in pressure units.
