Main control shaft incloses two concentric towers which are connected by six ports; flow-through controlled by cylinder gate; tests on 1:25 scale model indicated application of offset in inner tower, in conjunction with two 2.5 ft diam air vents through outer shaft, which eliminated cavitation in port areas above offset; vortex action in discharge ports was reduced.
