Advantages of both battery and magneto ignition systems for airplane engines; high-tension magneto superior as regards reliability; battery ignition has advantage from standpoint of locating trouble on plane; magneto cannot be readily tested without removing from engine; battery ignition has easy starting without auxiliary devices; drawbacks of starting; question of cost; even with superchargers it is doubtful if higher spark voltages will be needed.
