Series of tests to determine cause and provide preventive measures in aircraft to eliminate hazard from fire in air or in event of crash; no fires were traced to ignition; fires which occurred, with two exceptions, resulted from gasoline entering hot exhaust manifolds; thoroughly ventilated and drained compartments necessary in aircraft; recommendations for structure, electrical equipment, fuel and oil, exhaust, extinguishers, air-cooled engine.
