Description of series of tests conducted on Paulista Ry., Brazil, with heavy freight trains equipped with vacuum-brake apparatus; trial train consisted of 50 cars, all of which were braked, drawn by two Baldwin Westinghouse electric locomotives of 1350 hp. each with line voltage of 3600, and equipped with Westinghouse Co.'s standard E.T. air-brake apparatus; maximum running speed of 37.3 m.p.h. was imposed and action of brake tried for making service and emergency stops, rapid and slow-speed reductions and gradient control.
