Reduction in cost of over 20 per cent on new construction and 80 per cent in maintenance effected by arc welding; car shown had frame spliced by arc welding, which required approximately 4 hr. of welding by operator; new car was recently fabricated by welding at cost of $3400 as compared with cost of $4200 for riveted construction.
