J. I. Thorncroft and Co. are to commence construction of two 83-ft. tugs, one of which will be fitted with 360-b.hp. cold-starting, high-compressing engine built at Newark works of Worthington, Simpson, Ltd.; engine to be 4-cylinder 2-stroke unit of cross-head type, scavenging-air supply being obtained by using underside of main working pistons as pumps; isolation of crank chamber enables effective forced-feed lubrication; engine is reversible by compressed air; cylinder is 15.25 in. diam.; piston stroke 16 in.; maximum speed 275 r.p.m.
