Old steam locomotive used at slate workings in North Wales has been converted to electric operation, effecting considerable saving in working costs; figure showing general layout and design of converted locomotive; speed 3 1/2 to 4 m.p.h.; total weight, 4 tons; locomotive hauls slate blocks to mills, rubbish to tips, etc.; motor is 15-b.hp., 1650-r.p.m., drip-proof, 230-volt, d.c., and is connected through flexible couplings to worm-reduction gear having chain drive of double-link type to driving axle.
