To maintain passenger services of London Underground Railway system, site of 30 acres, between Chiswick Park and Acton Town stations was acquired in 1922; works laid out so as to deal with 40 cars per week; new system provides for dismantling and reassembling of car-body equipment and trucks, car painting, and repair work, carried out with work in continuous movement; five main shops, known as lifting, truck, body, paint, and woodworking shops.
