By invariable drive is meant locomotive in which Diesel engine drives direct to axle without intermediate transmission which permits varying axle speed independently of engine speed; one of greatest difficulties in way of accomplishing such drive on Diesel locomotives is problem of starting; author proposes what he claims to be new solution.
