Proposal for overhead tunnel immediately below hold deck; from tunnel sounding pipes can be led diagonally down to bilges thus making sounding possible in all weathers; in this tunnel usual tank ballast and bilge pipes would also be housed; winch steam pipes and electric cables could also be carried.
