System described produces thrust by expelling ions and electrons instead of combustion gases; equations derived for optimum mass ratio, power and driving voltage of ship with given payload, travel time and initial acceleration; nuclear reactor provides primary power for turboelectric generator; electric power then accelerates ions; caesium is best propellant.
