Performance of engines operated on distillate fuels; deposits investigated are those resulting from combustion of fuel, organic in origin, and include lacquer, varnish, and carbonaceous deposits in injector nozzle, combustion chamber surfaces, exhaust valves, ports, passages, and in upper cylinder and crankcase; data are confined to small high speed automotive type diesel engines and some of locomotive type.
