New single buoy mooring (SBM) provides solution to problem of larger tankers requiring accommodation in difficult marine areas; slightly longer pipe lines are needed than in case of multi-buoy mooring; operational limitations are fixed by ability of mooring launch and its crew to function in adverse weather; consideration is being given to possibility of providing bow loading/discharge facilities in ships regularly trading to SBM terminals; SBM installations in Indonesia, Japan and Malaya.
