New launches built by J.I. Thornycroft and Co for Iraq Petroleum Co will be used to take pilots out to tankers lying off-shore at new oil terminal at Jebel Dhanna in Sheikhdom of Abu Dhabi; in addition, launches will take mooring lines of tankers, which can be 10 in. manila or 5 1/2 in. wire; lines and basic design are same as earlier 48-ft boats, that is with full bodied round bilge and canoe stern to facilitate getting away from ship's side, but are more elaborately fitted out; length oa 48 ft, breadth molded 14 ft 4 in., depth molded 7 ft 6 in., maximum draft aft 5 ft 4 in., displacement 23.2 tons; 6-cyl Rolls-Royce diesel engines develop 264 shp.
