Berth, first of 3 being currently constructed, consists of 2 dolphins, 250 ft apart with oiling platform between them; each dolphin is formed by clump of box shaped steel piles driven into bed of harbor at slight angles to each other so that structure will withstand impact of ship coming alongside, whole being capped by concrete platform, and provided with special type of rubber fender and timber facing; supply hoses are lifted on board ship by rail mounted mobile tower crane and fuel oil or diesel can be pumped on board at rates up to 1500 tph.
