It is suggested that Port of Southampton on south coast of England, be developed into port for great ships as result of many natural advantages which it possesses; tidal regime, relation of Isle of Wight and Solent are noted and historical development of port is then traced, with reference also to auxiliary services such as shipbuilding and repair; regarding future, it is in general agreed that port is ideally situated to fulfill needs voiced in Rochdale Report for deep water berths, having facilities for economical handling of bulk cargoes; this aspect, research around Solent, economic and operational studies are discussed.
