Survey of present space launch technology centering around evolving Saturn family of launch vehicles, which currently is made up of Saturn 1, first-generation space launch vehicle serving as test bed for large scale launch vehicles; Saturn 1B, uprated version of Saturn 1, which will flight-test Apollo/LEM spacecraft in each orbit; Saturn 5, 3-stages-to-orbit-and-escape launch vehicle, designed to get 95,000-lb Apollo/LEM spacecraft on its trajectory toward moon.
