Systems used in study were small end-vented burner that employed end-burning grains and produced nonacoustic pressure oscillations, and side-vented, double-end burner of suitable lengths to produce LF (5 to 120 cps) acoustic pressure oscillations; propellant tested most extensively (metallized double base) exhibited oscillations only over very restricted pressure-frequency region; from these results it was inferred that response function of combustion zone showed marked peak when plotted as function of frequency at low pressures; similar behavior was shown by highly aluminized composite propellant.
