Design of redundant, automatic and manual, subsystems and operating modes, available for astronaut selection; tabulation of utilization of reaction control systems on each of Mercury spacecraft flights; design changes effected during course of program as result of experience gained through development and flight testing; personal reaction of astronauts to performance and handling of spacecraft attitude controls is discussed; system changes effected for each manned space flight; Glenn effect (fireflies phenomena) and possible explanation -- snow flake theory and oxygen ion theory.
