Various operations on Saturn S-IV, second stage of Saturn I, and even more powerful S-IVB, third stage of NASA Saturn V moon rocket built by Missile and Space Systems Div of Douglas Aircraft Co, are done in tandem; many components for both rockets are only different in size; description of forming, welding and inspection operations in fabrication of five major assemblies for vehicles, namely forward skirt and heat barrier, tank, domes and liquid-oxygen tank, engine section and interstage assembly; special tooling developed by Douglas is among largest in Free World.
