Strain measurements on case of rocket engine models with applied loads were made with electric-resistance-type strain gages, enabling computation of case surface stresses; model consisted of aluminum case with bonded, viscoelastic grain; model having circular-shaped grain was tested first with applied internal pressure and then to failure with applied axial load, uniformly distributed; model having star-shaped grain was loaded with applied internal pressure until failure by rupturing occurred.
