In practice trim problems are generally solved by manipulation of water ballast at expense of deadweight; author points out that this is wasteful, and to assist ship's office\ill\ he outlines simple method of rapidly estimating vessel's trim in any condition of loading; ordinary metacentric theory is basis of method and is used to calculate, for series of drafts, change of drafts forward and aft consequent upon placing weight of 100 tons in any hold in respective positions of abaft the hatch, under and forward of hatch. See brief translated abstract in Mar. Engr. and Motorship Bldr., vol. 49, no. 591, Nov. 1926, p. 437.
