Drilling ship Discoverer, built for Offshore Co at yard of Southern Shipbldg Inc, Slidell, La, is capable of drilling and completing oil and gas wells in water up to depth of 600 ft and can be used in deeper waters with minor adaptations; hull is of conventional design; ship is not self-propelled; length 320 ft, breadth 70 ft, hull depth 25 ft, estimated displacement 10,000 tons; drilling power is provided by 3 newly designed Gen Motors ElectroMotive model SR-16-W skid-mounted generator units.
