Mathematical model is derived for situations in which facility performs as primary function but is available, during otherwise idle periods between primary jobs, to service secondary tasks as well; example of traffic at side-street intersections with main highway; results of study are applicable to preventive maintenance of computer, radar, machine tool, or vehicle, to occasional bursts of noise of varying durations and to problem of producing special factory orders between production runs.
