Resistance to skidding may be improved by increasing adhesion between tire and road and exploiting what grip is available to best advantage; grip achieved depends on characteristics of road surface, tire and vehicle; information is given on Road Research Laboratory (D SIR) test apparatus as well as on results obtained.
