Rocket jet exhausting into vacuum and interacting with infinite ground plane, oriented normal to jet is problem which may be of pertinence to soft lunar landings; impingement is examined using Newtonian approximation to analyze transonic region; jet exhaust is simplified as quasi-radial flow using exact calculation as basis; 2 examples are calculated giving shock detachment distance and ground pressures as function of rocket altitude.
