Approximate solution is presented and deformation theory of plasticity is used, with Mises yield criterion and its associated flow rule; solutions are presented for materials that strain-harden according to Ludwik power law relationship; results obtained are compared with those for cylinders with rigid ends to determine influence of end restraint on burst pressure; numerical results for cylinder lengths varying from zero (sphere) to infinity and for range of hardening coefficients from 0-1.0; applicability to reactor-containment vessels and rocket motor or missile cases.
